Our commitment to sustainability
THE COMMITMENT OF LEONE ALATO
NET-ZERO GOAL AND BIODIVERSITY PROTECTION
Leone Alato, in line with the strategy of Generali Country Italia, addresses environmental challenges with concrete actions, such as reducing the carbon footprint through innovative agricultural practices, renewable energy, and fleet electrification, with the goal of achieving Net-Zero by 2040, validated by SBTi in 2024.
Biodiversity protection represents another fundamental pillar. Leone Alato monitors its estates to preserve ecosystems and the animal species that inhabit them by integrating advanced technologies such as sensors and satellite data.
GENERALI ACT4GREEN
1 Million Trees by 2026
In collaboration with Generali Italia, the Generali Act4Green project has been launched, which aims to plant 1 million trees by 2026. As part of this commitment, the Gregorina Oasis, affiliated with the National System of WWF Oases, was inaugurated in May 2024, symbolizing a balance between agriculture and nature.

SBTi Approved Decarbonization Targets
Leone Alato S.p.A. is the first Italian agricultural company to have its CO2e emission reduction targets approved by the Science Based Target initiative.
Thanks to this recognition, Leone Alato makes its commitment to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions (scope 1, 2, and 3) by 90% by 2040 concrete and measurable across the entire value chain. Specifically, for FLAG emissions – Forest Land and Agriculture, which are emissions related to land use and specific to the agricultural sector, an equally ambitious target has been validated: to reduce direct and indirect emissions (Scope 1 and 3) by 72% by 2040.
Alongside these long-term goals, "near term" targets have also been defined: by 2033, Leone Alato commits to reducing its direct emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 58.8% and indirect emissions (Scope 3) by 35%. Specifically, for the FLAG category, the goal is to reduce Scope 1 and 3 emissions by 42.4% by 2033.

Our Contribution to People and the Planet
Through targeted action programs, the Winged Lion Group is actively promoting the achievement of the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These initiatives, already underway, will continue to be carried out and are included in the new strategic plan 2025-2027. Our 'Goals' meet the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social, and ecological.

Actions Against Climate Change
Leone Alato has adopted targeted measures to mitigate the effects of climate change and actively capture carbon from the atmosphere. These include:
- Experimenting with carbon farming practices
- Promoting practices related to regenerative agriculture (cover crops, crop rotation, planting) by participating in the LENS - Landscape Enterprises Networks project
- Forestation with the Generali Act4Green project, with which 1 million trees will be planted on our estates by 2026

Clean Energy
With the aim of increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix, improving energy efficiency and becoming an agricultural player in the energy sector, in recent years Leone Alato has:
- Implemented 2 biogas plants that meet the energy needs of 6,000 families
- Adopted photovoltaic systems that produce 4.25MWh
- Electrified 50% of automotive fleets and installed charging stations in 60% of our production units

Biodiversity
To safeguard the territories in which it operates, Leone Alato has initiated several projects:
- Monitoring terrestrial biodiversity through satellite technology and IoT sensors (in collaboration with 3Bee)
- Monitoring species in the field through direct observations, with particular attention to birds, mammals, and herpetofauna (in collaboration with Barbasso)
- Conservation of the barn owl and a scientific ringing field as part of the ISPRA MonITRing project (in collaboration with Barbasso)

Respect for workers
To ensure maximum safety for personnel working in the field, an app developed by Generali Jeniot is used, which allows for timely reporting of any anomalies and rapid intervention in the event of illness, accident or any emergency, helping to protect the health and safety of workers.
Furthermore, thanks to dedicated LMS platforms, employees have continuous access to training and refresher courses, useful for developing technical and soft skills, as well as for in-depth study of current issues.

Sustainable cities and communities
Sharing the company's cultural heritage with the community, sustainability, accessibility and inclusion - it is with these objectives that Leone Alato has transformed Ca'Corniani in recent years into a place capable of telling how to do business and agriculture in a virtuous way, implementing 30 km of cycle paths, 3 monumental works of art by the master Alberto Garutti, promoting museum spaces and choosing to promote sustainable wine tourism.

AGRICULTURE 4.0
The use of cutting-edge technologies allows precision agriculture that intervenes in a targeted way on crops, making the use of water, fertilizers, pesticides more efficient and reducing waste. Farmdroid, drones, GPS, chemical analysis of the soil and predictive software are the strengths of a system that aims to use only the necessary resources.
